Rumor: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 would arrive on Switch 2 in 2026

One of the most acclaimed games of the generation may be on its way to Nintendo's latest console, but still in the swampy terrain of rumors. The insider known as Nate the Hate once again stated that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the turn-based RPG from the French Sandfall Interactive, would arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. Before any excitement, the necessary warning: none of this has been officially confirmed.

What the insider said

Nate the Hate reiterated the information after the most recent Nintendo Direct, in which the game was absent. According to him, the port is still scheduled for this year, resuming a prediction that he had already made in early 2026, on his podcast. The absence of the title in Nintendo's official presentation, however, only reinforces that we are facing a behind-the-scenes preview, and not an announcement.

It is worth noting why the name carries some weight. Nate the Hate accumulates recent hits involving Nintendo, having correctly anticipated information such as the remake of Ocarina of Time, the remake of Star Fox 64 and even the date of a Nintendo Direct before the official announcements. This history gives credibility to its sources, but history is no guarantee: rumor remains rumor.

Why Doubt Matters

So far, neither Nintendo, developer Sandfall Interactive, nor publisher Kepler Interactive have confirmed any Switch 2 version. What is concrete is more modest: Sandfall's CEO, Guillaume Broche, even publicly commented on the possibility of a port for the console even before the device's launch last year. Commenting on a possibility, however, is far from announcing a date.

Therefore, the reader should face the information with due skepticism. Release windows suggested by insiders change, slip to the next year, or simply don't materialize. While there is no official announcement, trailer or page on the eShop, the arrival of Expedition 33 on Switch 2 remains in the field of speculation.

The Expedition 33 phenomenon

The interest in an eventual port is explained by the size of the success. Released on April 24, 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, as well as being available from day one on Xbox Game Pass, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has become one of the biggest recent critical phenomena. The game received practically unanimous acclaim, with emphasis on the narrative, art direction, soundtrack and combat system.

  • On OpenCritic, 98% of critics recommended the title.

  • At The Game Awards 2025, there were nine awards from thirteen nominations, including Game of the Year, the most wins and nominations for a single title in the history of the awards.

  • As of April 2026, the game had sold around 8 million copies.

A catalog of this magnitude explains the expectation of Switch 2 owners. Bringing a recent Game of the Year to Nintendo's base would be quite a reinforcement for the console's library. Still, expectation is no substitute for confirmation.

What remains

For now, the message is simple: there is a persistent rumor, coming from a source with a good track record, that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 would arrive on Switch 2 in 2026. There is, however, no official word from Nintendo, Sandfall or Kepler. If the information is confirmed, it will be great news for fans of the RPG. Until then, the most sensible thing is to keep your feet on the ground and wait for a real announcement.
